PHOTOS: Madonna University risks students’ lives with dilapidated hostel
A hostel in Madonna University, Okija, Anambra state is in terrible state.
Students of the school pay hundreds of thousands of Naira as education fee – including accommodation. The institution makes nearly a billion Naira yearly from fees.
A student said they experience massive flooding when it rains.
“Water reaches as high as the knees,” she says.
It is reported that the students have been banned from using camera phones. The students allege it’s a ploy by the authorities to prevent them from capturing the dilapidated buildings and other abnormalities.
The dilapidated structures pose huge risk to the students’ lives.
“We’re even scared it could collapse one day,” another student adds.
Many parents prefer to send their wards to private schools to afford them the opportunities of better welfare compared to public institutions, while also avoiding incessant strikes at Federal and State universities which are at the mercy of ASUU and FG.
