Tragedy was averted after bystanders stopped a man “known to be very violent” from beating up his landlady’s daughter with a wooden plank.

The incident happened around 8:40 a.m. on Friday, eyewitnesses told Newsroom.

He’s done it before.

Eyewitnesses said "Izu Baba" is notorious for beating people up and then calling his police friends at Ilaje Police Station to lock them up.
Eyewitnesses said “Izu Baba;” a drugstore owner at 39, Arobadade Street, Bariga, Lagos; is notorious for beating people up and then calling his police friends at Ilaje-Bariga police station to lock them up.

“He almost killed a pregnant woman.”

Woman identified as Iya Akeem could have been thrown into mourning, Friday, eyewitnesses said. They told Newsroom that Izu had a spat with Iya Akeem’s pregnant daughter identified as Khadijat, and threatened to beat her up…with a wooden plank. Iya Akeem owns the house where Izu’s drugstore is located.

Not on my watch!

Mr. Oduntan owns the house opposite Iya Akeem’s. Eyewitnesses said he was one of the many people that told Izu “you’re not going to kill a pregnant woman while I watch.” Oduntan and several others allegedly snatched the plank from Izu’s hands.

Izu, eyewitnesses said, was not deterred. He threatened to use his bare hands on the pregnant woman. A crowd had gathered. Some of the people told Izu “we will kill you if you try it,” eyewitnesses told Newsroom.

Here comes the police…”they’re Izu’s friends.”

The confusion continued and Izu reportedly zoomed off to Ilaje police station to report his landlady and the crowd. Iya Akeem called the police too. But…

Izu’s police “friends” sent a policewoman after him to “find out what’s going on.” It’s a woman. When she heard Izu was trying to beat a pregnant woman, she became powerless, eyewitnesses said. “They sent her to arrest us but she could not do so seeing that Izu was trying to beat a woman like herself…a pregnant one at that.”

…”and that was how the story died,” an eyewitness told Newsroom.

They said Izu had the “horrible” habit of picking fights with everyone around him.

“He will fight them and then head to Ilaje police station to bring policemen. The police will come most of the time and arrest Izu’s opponents.”
