Panic as explosive devices are delivered at Obama, Hillary Clinton’s office, home
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has said some suspicious packages were received at multiple locations in the New York, Washington, D.C., and Florida between Monday, October 22 and Wednesday, October 24.
The packages, FBI says, are similar in appearance and contain potentially destructive devices.
Reports citing the Secret Service say the destructive devices were sent to former President Barack Obama’s office in Washington, D.C. early Wednesday, while some others were sent to Hillary and Bill Clinton’s home in the New York City suburbs late Tuesday.
Police authorities said in a statement that the packages have been sent for analysis at the FBI Laboratory in Quantico, Virginia.
“This investigation is of the highest priority for the FBI. We have committed the full strength of the FBI’s resources and, together with our partners on our Joint Terrorism Task Forces, we will continue to work to identify and arrest whoever is responsible for sending these packages,” FBI Director, Christopher Wray, said.
“We ask anyone who may have information to contact the FBI. Do not hesitate to call; no piece of information is too small to help us in this investigation.”
The White House has also reacted to the development, describing it as an act of terrorism.
“We condemn the attempted violent attacks recently made against President Obama, President Clinton, Secretary Clinton, and other public figures,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.
“These terrorizing acts are despicable, and anyone responsible will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. The United States Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies are investigating and will take all appropriate actions to protect anyone threatened by these cowards.”
