Osinbajo to launch 2-month free train ride on Lagos-Abeokuta rail February 6
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will launch a 2-month free train ride on the Lagos-Abeokuta section of the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail on Wednesday, February 6.
The flag-off will signal the completion of 85 kilometers of the entire 156-kilometer stretch of the impressive project by President Buhari’s government.
Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi said during an inspection on Friday that two coaches would be deployed from Itakpe-Warri railway station to make four coaches which would run the free ride for two months.
“I am impressed. The Vice-President will ride the train on February 6. He is coming to flag off the passengers’ use of the first phase from Lagos to Abeokuta which would reduce travel time from 1 hour 30 minutes to 45 minutes,” the minister said.
Amaechi also gave an assurance that the Lagos axis of the rail track would be ready by the end of June this year.
“They have gone far with the civil works. So the problem they have now is that they have to blast the rock which they are doing so that before the end of June, what will be the problem is stations and communication system”, he said.
The rail project is expected to ensure ease of movement for residents in Lagos, Ibadan and other areas within the locality as they go about their daily businesses.
