One dies in accident involving Sports Minister Dalung’s convoy in Gombe

At least one person was confirmed dead in an accident involving the convoy of the Minister of Youth Development and Sport, Barrister Solomon Dalung, on Saturday.

Dalung was was in Gombe for the elective national congress of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).

The accident was said to have occurred near Akko village along Gombe Airport road, when a driver of a Peugeot 406 who was coming from Gombe lost control of his car and rammed into the minister’s convoy that was going into the state from the airport.

A jeep and a bus in the convoy carrying delegates reportedly somersaulted and injured 20 people, including the Acting National President of the NYCN, Mr Chinedu Mayor.

The driver of the Peugeot, also a delegate, was said to have died on the spot.

19 other persons have been admitted at the hospital and were receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, and the Specialists Hospital, Gombe.
