Offa Bank Robbery: Police deny killing Adikwu, say Saraki not yet off the hook

The last has not been heard of the death of Michael Adikwu, one of six prime suspects in the bloodbath that occurred during a bank robbery in Otta, Kwara State in April.

Adikwu, a dismissed police officer, and his gang killed no lesser than 30 persons during the robbery attack.

The court confirmed on Wednesday that the police claimed he had died in custody.

Many have raised eyebrows about Adikwu’s purported death, and Senate President Bukola Saraki who had been linked to some of the robbers, has called for proper investigation into the suspect’s death.

Police said through its spokesman Jimoh Moshood on Thursday that Adikwu wasn’t murdered, but slumped and died in detention during investigation.

Moshood also said Saraki was not yet free from having to answer to the allegation.

“It is also important for the public to know that the deceased Michael Adikwu was not among the five gang leaders that indicted and implicated Senator Bukola Saraki, therefore, his death cannot in anyway vindicate him,” he said.

He added that there is a post-mortem examination result in respect of the death of Adikwu.

“Judicial process must be exhausted and not hindered for the law to take its course in ensuring justice for the families of more than 33 innocent persons including pregnant women that were gruesomely murdered in cold blood by Michael Adikwu and the five gang leaders,” Moshood said in his statement.
