NUEE embarks on protest over estimated billing, shuts IKEDC building
Members of the National Union of Electricity Employees on Wednesday morning embarked on a peaceful protest against estimated billing by electricity distribution companies in the country.
The NUEE members, as well as some Lagos residents, besieged the building of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) at the Secretariat, Alausa.
The protesters proceeded to picket the building, refusing to allow IKEDC officials in or out.
One of the members told Newsroom corespondent at the scene that the protest was about “crazy bills” being served to Nigerian homes by the electricity distribution companies.
“It will be a peaceful protest which might continue until the end of the week, unless something positive comes up,” the member told us.
Another member lamented the exorbitant fees electricity consumers pay, without “enjoying the light”.
Police officials were on ground to prevent hoodlums from hijacking the protest.
