NOW! Activists march on Nigerian Senate over social media bill
December 8, 2015
Social media activists are protesting in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, over an anti-social-media bill proposed by senior Nigerian lawmakers.
The bill recommends a 2-year jail tenure for anyone who posts “false” allegations against government officials on social media. The alternative to prison sentence is a hefty N2 million fine.
The Nigerian Senate say the bill is misunderstood. Nigerians are not buying it.
President Muhammadu Buhari has dissociated himself from the “stupid” bill.
Social media activists march on the Senate as we speak demanding the bill be shelved.
