“No WAEC certificate is needed to become president” – Keyamo
The spokesperson of the All Progressive Congress, Festus Keyamo, SAN has made a case for aspiring politicians who don’t have WAEC certificate by saying that they don’t need WAEC to become a President or governor.
He made the statement in light of the controversial case of certificate forgery against the presumed governor-elect of Osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke whose candidacy was nullified by a high court sitting in Abuja over allegations that he did not possess secondary school certificate (SSCE) as he claimed.
Keyamo argued that it was needless for anyone to forge WAEC certificate before vying for governorship or presidential positions since the constitution only requires a candidate to possess School Leaving Certificate or its equivalent plus the ability to just speak, write, understand and communicate in English language to the satisfaction of INEC.
“By the definition of “School Certificate or its equivalent” in section 318 of the 1999 const. You don’t need a WAEC certificate to become President or Governor, but if you present a FORGED WAEC or other certificate to INEC for any office you will be disqualified. #OsunStateScenario,” he wrote on Twitter.
Responding to the controversy surrounding the authenticity of President Buhari’s WAEC certificate, he added that “Forgery occurs when the supposed author of a document denies ever making it or denies its authenticity.
“WAEC has confirmed the authenticity of PMB’s certificate by issuing an attestation of it. Case closed. In #OsunCaseScenario WAEC has denied the authenticity,”he concluded
