Nigerian man “remarries” dead wife to regain custody of own twin

Her motionless body lied in a casket at a funeral…but it wasn’t just another burial.

When Onyema Orji set out to pay his final respect to the woman he once shared his life with, he didn’t envisage marrying her again, and this time without her death-cold lips incapable of reciting the marriage vows.

We are not sure what to call this one…a marriage funeral, perhaps?

Orji’s initial union with Blessing, as the deceased was identified, had produced a twin the woman took to her second marital home after her union with Orji failed.

Blessing is dead, her second marriage to one Chukwuma failing to generate any offspring. That was probably why Orji reentered the fray, determined to reclaim the twins any biological test would prove were his.

But life is not that easy.

“These children will be in the custody of the widower of our late daughter, and you are not the one,” Blessing’s family told Orji.

And so was Orji “forced” to remarry the dead body of the woman he “rejected” in life.

All things being equal, Orji should now have custody of his twins. After the “life and death” wedding, he was also allowed the official right to bury his late wife.

Reports say this scene, which played out over the weekend, might not have been had Blessing’s mother not “interfered” in her daughter’s first marriage. That was the reason Orji allegedly gave for reneging on his first marital vow.
