Nigerian doctor converts tricycle to hospital, delivers baby boy on New Year’s Day

On New Year’s Day, Fred Ekete, set out with his family to visit his mother-in-law in Enugu.

On their way to her house, they were flagged down a sister-in-law who live along the route.

“She flagged us down; we didn’t plan to stop by,” Ekete said in a Facebook post Friday night.

What happened next suggests God arranged the impromptu stop-by, Ekete said he strongly believed.

“Few minutes later a young man in his late twenties ran in panting…’my wife is in labour in that health centre and there is nobody there’.”

The sister-in-law’s house is located opposite Iji Nike Cottage Hospital, near Enugu East Development Centre in Nkwo Nike.

The panting young man had taken his labouring wife there. It appeared those who should be there had other plans for New Year’s Day.

So the couple was stranded. But God had a plan, and a perfect one at that. He wasn’t just going to arrange for someone to stop by and help. He was going to ensure that someone was a doctor.

Ekete continued:

In less than five minutes a mobile hospital was set setup in the ‘keke’ (tricycle) that brought in the woman.
To the glory of God, my wife who is a doctor delivered the woman of a bouncing baby boy at 6:30pm. My sisters-in-law turned nurses instantly and the torchlight in my phone provided the lighting. Thank you Lord.

That was how a couple who thought they were stranded on New Year’s Day found help just when they needed it.

Now, that’s the kind of story we love to hear during Yuletide.

But, wait a minute…where were the health workers at that clinic?
