#NigeriaDecides2019: Sanwo-Olu declared governor-elect of Lagos

The All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been declared winner of Lagos state gubernatorial poll.

He was returned elected by the INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede at the Yaba collation centre. Sanwo-Olu polled 739,445 votes out of a total number of 977,476 valid votes.

Following behind him was Jimi Agbaje of PDP who garnered 206,141 votes.

Prof. Ogunbodede revealed that out of a total number of 6,505,512 registered voters in the state, only 1,006,074 were accredited for the governorship poll while 998,715 people eventually cast the vote. He also stated that 21,239 votes were rejected.

Declaring the result of the election, Prof. Ogunbodede said, “That Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, of the All Progressives Congress, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

Jimi Agbaje has since called Sanwo-Olu to concede defeat as the governor-elect eulogizes Agbaje’s humility and sportsmanship.

In his victory remarks, Sanwo-Olu thanked the people of Lagos for believing in him and promised not to let them down.
