Nigeria: Jobless father of 7 commits suicide after wife “cheats” on him
An unidentified man reportedly committed suicide in Bayelsa on Thursday for unconfirmed reasons.
The middle-aged man was said to have hung himself with a bed sheet tied to the ceiling of a vacant room of an uncompleted building on Asingbi Street in the Amarata area of Yenagoa.
Reports in some quarters say the man committed suicide due to being unemployed. The middle-aged man was said to have lost his job in 2010.
He was said to be dependent on his wife.
Contrary reports however claim the man, who hailed from Ekeremor Local Government Area of the state, killed himself because of his wife’s infidelity.
She denied him sex, reports say. The couple shared seven children.
The caretaker of the apartment where the incident happened, Mr. Benjamin Samuel, said the deceased began searching for his wife Wednesday midnight.
“We charged our phones together on Wednesday night. His children were at home, but his wife was away,” Samuel said.
“Later, I saw him making some calls after charging his phone. He was searching for his wife, who was nowhere to be found.”
The deceased’s body was seen dangling from the ceiling early Thursday morning.
