NIGER: Boy kills girlfriend for dating his brother
Idrisu Muhammadu, a 16-year-old boy from Evutagi village in the Katcha area of Niger state has been arrested for killing his girlfriend, Fatima Isah.
The tragic incident occurred when Idris who believed that his brother was allegedly having an affair with the young lady could no longer hold his temper.
He’s reported to have initially threatened to kill the girl if she refuses to stop seeing his brother and marry him. Although the father of the victim, Mr Isah Evutagi had reported the threat to the police, it still did not deter him.
“I told my brother to leave Fatimah for me because I planned to marry her, but he would not listen to me and he kept on seeing her until one day, I lost my temper and killed her,” Idris confessed.
Mr Evutagi had been planning to give his daughter’s hand in marriage to another man instead of the two competing brothers, but Idris did not take his decision lightly. Instead, he went ahead to carry out his threat.
The police confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect had confessed to killing the girl with a cutlass in the same village.
Mohammed Abubakar, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer revealed that the suspect will be charged to court once investigations on the matter is complete.
