Nasarawa gas explosion victims to be flown to South Africa – Governor Al-Makura

The victims of gas explosion in Nasarawa will be flown out to South Africa for treatment, the state governor says.

An explosion that occurred at a gas station in Lafia on Monday left no fewer than thirty-six victims badly burnt.

State Governor Umaru Al-Makura revealed on Friday that so far, a total of eleven victims have died, with eight others in critical condition.

Al-Makura said the government had concluded arrangement to fly some of the victims to South Africa for further treatment.

He told the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, Dr Yahaya Adamu who paid him a condolence visit that most of the victims were being treated at the National Trauma Centre in Abuja.

The governor promised to provide land for the construction of the permanent site of the Federal Medical Centre in Keffi, in order to enable an expansion of the facility.

He added that his government will establish an emergency centre to enable the hospital cope with large scale of emergency cases such as the Lafia gas explosion.
