Minimum Wage: FG to reach agreement Monday – Ngige
October 26, 2018
Labour Minister, Chris Ngige, has said the Federal Government would come up with a decision on the new minimum wage next week.
The Nigeria Labour Congress, which wants a minimum of N30,000 a public workers’ salary, had threatened to embark on a nationwide strike November 6, if FG doesn’t do its bidding.
Ngige said on Friday that an “enlarged meeting of all key stakeholders” federal and state levels has been fixed for Monday, when an agreement is expected to be reached.
The FG had said it can only afford to pay workers N24,000, and threatened to activate a ‘no work, no pay’ policy for striking workers.
The current minimum wage of N18,000 was last reviewed in 2011, during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
