Manager sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for N16m fraud

The court has sentenced a manager, Mohammed Baba Isah, to six years imprisonment over N16m fraud.

Isah, a manager in Damaturu-based MBC Synergy Limited, was accused in January 2018 of parading counterfeit documents, including secondary school result and possession of forged stamp belonging to some banks, to divert the sum for personal use.

The sum, according to the EFCC, was part of a N25 million sum the complainant had invested in MBC Synergy Limited for the purpose of doing telecommunications business.

Isah was consequently charged with a three-count charge which bordered on criminal misappropriation and forgery.

He had pleaded guilty to all the counts on February 13, 2019, when he was arraigned and was convicted by the judge.

Justice Ibrahim Wakil Jauro of the Yobe State High Court, sitting in Damaturu, pronounced the six-year sentence on Tuesday.

“I hereby sentence you Mohammed Baba Isah on count one to one year in prison for criminal misappropriation with an option of fine in the sum of N100,000,” Justice Jauro ruled.
