Man who raped boy to death handed one-month jail term
Aminu may be no more but justice has reportedly been served. The man who confessed to kidnapping and raping him has been dealt with, reports say.
Niger tea seller Abubakar a.k.a Maisha abducted the 12-year-old from his parents’ house and held him hostage, raping in for weeks.
Abubakar was arrested and charged to court before the boy died. And he pleaded guilty to two counts of abduction and unnatural offences.
Reports flying around quote a police source as saying the following:
“The unfortunate thing is that he (Abubakar) was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with a fine of N30,000 which is ridiculous. The punishment generated a lot of outcry. But it is not the police’s fault. What the police can do is to appeal the case or file a new charge, now that boy is dead.”
The incident happened in Kontagora area of Niger State.
State police spokesperson Elkana James said the force would face fresh charges after serving his one-month sentence.
“He is still in prison, serving the one month’s imprisonment,” James said.
“Once the new charge is filed, he would be reproduced to take his plea.”
