Man sentenced to death by hanging after killing father over bush meat in Akwa Ibom
A court in Akwa Ibom has sentenced one Utibe Daniel Etim to death by hanging for killing his father, Daniel Etim, over bush meat.
The Akwa Ibom High Court, Itu judicial division, had heard how Utibe had hacked his father to death with an axe following a disagreement over a portion of the bush rabbit he caught.
Etim, a bone specialist, had died in the hospital from the injuries he sustained in the head. Utibe had been arraigned on a one count charge of murder in 2016.
Justice Edem Akpan delivered the judgment on suit N0 HIT/21c/2016 after five witnesses, including the pathologist who performed the autopsy on the deceased, had testified on the case.
Utibe was also said to have confessed to the crime while in the police custody that he struck his father’s head with an axe.
“The sentence of the court upon you, Utibe Daniel Etim, is that you be hanged by the neck until you be dead; and may the Lord have mercy upon your soul,” Justice Edem said during his judgment.
