Court pronounces death sentence on man who killed his father over N56,000 in Bauchi

A middle-aged man, Jibril Idrisa has been sentenced to die by hanging for killing his father over N56,000 sale proceeds of a Guinea corn.

Justice Habib Abima delivered the judgement at a Court of Appeal in Jos on Tuesday, saying that the previous judgement of “discharging and acquitting” Jibril by the lower court would be overturned.

“He is found guilty of the offence of culpable homicide punishable with death contrary to section 211 of the penal code law of Bauchi State,” Justice Habib said.

The judge added that the lower court had erred in its judgement before pronouncing that “the court hereby sentences him (Jibril Idris) to death by hanging.”

NAN reports that the deceased’s family through their counsel, Mr Ishaq Magaj, had urged the appellate court to set aside the January 26th decision of  Bauchi State High court by Justice M.A. Sambo.

The family said that the accused had accepted that he killed his father whose body he buried in a shallow grave close to a river at Tafawa Balewa,
