Man arrested 2 years after disappearing with Air Force operative’s car

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Imo have arrested an alleged car thief, Promise Livinus, two years after he went into hiding.

Livinus was alleged to have stolen a car under a false identity.

State NSCDC Commandant, Raji Ibrahim said on Thursday while parading the 39-year-old suspect in Owerri, that he collected a car belonging to an officer of the Nigerian Air Force from one Anthony Ubah, under the pretence that he wanted to help him sell the car. Ibrahim said Livinus disappeared with the vehicle since August 2016.

“The suspect escaped without a trace until September 2018 when Livinus was arrested by the Intelligence Department of the command,” he said.

Livinus said he actually sold the car, but decided to keep the money to himself.

“I collected the car from the owner by pretending to sell it for him as agreed, but I sold it and took the money away. I had to change my SIM card so that I could not be traced. I met my conquest a year after when I was seen and arrested by the officers and men of the NSCDC,” he said.

The NSCDC commandant said investigation was still ongoing.
