Ibrahim Attahiru – Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff dies in plane crash a day after Abubakar Shekau’s death

Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru, who was appointed on January 26, 2021, died in a military plane crash in Kaduna state, on Friday.

According to Reuters and BBC, Attahiru died in a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft on Friday near the Kaduna airport.

Neusroom cannot immediately confirm the identities of other passengers with Attahiru on the ill-fated aircraft.

Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force who announced the crash in a tweet did not reveal their identities.

An air crash involving a Nigerian Air Force aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport. The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained,” he tweeted.

This is the third ill-fated military aircraft this year. A NAF aircraft heading to Niger state on Sunday February 21, 2021, crashed in Abuja while another aircraft that lost radar contact on March 31, 2021 was also declared crashed.
