Malawian man jailed for marrying own daughter after divorcing wife
The 53-year-old man has started serving a two-and-half-year jail term.
Jelian Phiri from Kasungu district, central Malawi, married his 20-year-old daughter after he divorced his wife, Kasungu deputy police publicist, Harry Namwaza said.
The police, after arresting him over the incestuous relationship, charged him with incest and the Kasungu magistrates court sentenced him to two and half years in prison. But he and his daughter had already made one child together.
Cases of incest are rare in Malawi though cases of stepfathers defiling or raping their stepdaughters are said to be on the increase, Nyasa Times reports..
