In a frantic bid to defend his decision to ban immigrants from at least seven countries, American President Donald Trump has said there are “a lot of bad dudes out there.”

Trump, who has come under intense criticism since announcing the ban on countries like Libya, Sudan, Iran, Iraq, Yemen and Somalia, said he couldn’t wait to adopt a procedural mode of action in checking immigrants because they would have seized the window of opportunity to enter the country.

“If the ban were announced with a one week notice, the “bad” would rush into our country during that week. A lot of bad “dudes” out there!” he tweeted Monday afternoon.

Trump had earlier dispelled reports that the ban placed on the affected countries was intended to shut out all Muslims as widely reported by the media.

“This is not about religion – this is about terror and keeping our country safe. There are over 40 different countries worldwide that are majority Muslim that are not affected by this order,” he said in a Facebook post.

So far, Nigerians who nurse the ambition to travel to the United States or those who have loved ones in the country have become agitated over how Trump’s ban would affect them.
