“I’ve acted fairly towards Igbos” – Buhari declares as he concludes rally in Enugu, Anambra

President Buhari has concluded his campaign rally in a two-state tour of Anambra and Enugu on Thursday where he declared at the palace of the Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Achebe that his administration has been fair towards the Igbos despite contrary opinions.

He made the statement in the presence of various traditional rulers who were of the opinion that the south-east region has been marginalized in the president’s choice of members of the executive cabinet and security chiefs.

Buhari argued that appointments were made on state by state basis and since only one person was needed for each key role, there was no way he could have hired everybody.

“If there are half a million soldiers, only one man can be the chief of Army staff at a time. This is so for the rest of the troop,” he said.

“In recruitment, we make sure that by states, people are recruited. At least, this is what I do, people are recruited from each state. For those who manage to get recruited, it’s up to them to get to the top if they are professional and work for it.

“The present chief of army staff, the chief of air staff, the chief of naval staff even the previous inspector-general of police that just left, I didn’t know them personally before I appointed them. I follow records.”

Although the President is seen as an unpopular choice in the south-east, he’s reaching out by hosting a campaign amid tight security at Holy Trinity field in Onitsha after which he moved over to Enugu.

While in Anambra, president Buhari inaugurated the newly completed Zik Mausoleum and reeled out the achievements of his administration in the region.

He went on to implore the audience to vote for APC, that the party meant no harm to them.
