Lebanese arrested with over $2m cash at Abuja airport

A Lebanese national has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for having an enormous sum of $2 million in his possession at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Abbas Lakis who was aboard an Egypt Airline flight from Kano en route Lebanon through Abuja was apprehended for money laundering offence at the behest of an intelligence report on him.

EFCC reported to have recovered money in different denominations, including Dollars worth $2,104,936 (Two Million, One Hundred and Four Thousand, Nine Hundred and Thirty six Dollars); £163, 740 (One Hundred and Sixty Three Thousand, Seven Hundred and Forty Pounds); €144,680 (One Hundred and Forty Four Thousand, Six Hundred and Eighty Euros).

He also had money in several other currencies concealed in his luggage. There was no clear knowledge of where he got the money from and how he was able to get through security with so much money in Kano.
