LASTMA GM Olajide Oduyoye

The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olajide Oduyoye has exonerated his men from the roadblocks mounted in different parts of the state by security operatives.

Videos of stranded residents circulated on social media on Tuesday with claims that they were forced to spend the night on the highway for staying out beyond 8pm by security operatives enforcing the overnight curfew.

Some social media users had claimed that police and LASTMA officers were involved in the enforcement.

Oduyoye, however, told Neusroom in a telephone conversation on Wednesday night that LASTMA officers are not involved in the roadblocks mounted in some parts of the state because they now close early and don’t stay out during the curfew.

“We don’t want them to get caught up in the curfew so officers go home early,” Oduyoye said. “On one hand it’s a problem for me because there are now a lot of traffic on the road and on the other hand I have to also consider how my officers will get home. So LASTMA is not involved in the curfew roadblock.”
