Lagos Police sanctions officers playing lotto on duty
Some police officers, according to the Lagos State police command, have been arrested for playing lotto, known as ‘baba Ijebu’ in local parlance.
Police say the officers, stationed near Zenith Bank, Opebi, Ikeja, were initially accused of counting bribes received and smoking in a viral video, but investigations revealed they were only going through coupons they collected from a game of gambling they played.
“The men are currently facing disciplinary action that could lead to reduction in rank or dismissal,” police say in a statement.
Lagos police boss Edgal Imohimi said it is wrong for policemen to engage in such distracting activity while on duty, and encouraged members of the public to always expose, although accurately, indiscipline and unprofessional policemen.
