Lagos motorists hike transport fare as traffic gridlock leaves commuters stranded
September 21, 2015
Many Lagos residents who planned showing up at work early, Monday, are stranded in traffic.
“The traffic is so bad I saw drivers sleeping on their steerings at Apapa,” a woman who followed that route to Palmgroove told Newsroom on Monday.
That was about 8:00 a.m.
“It was a standstill,” she said.
The gridlock has spread to the ever busy Ikorodu highway.
The route inbound Ikorodu looks good; the opposite lane, however, was moving at the speed of a drowsy snail. (9:00 a.m.)
Commercial bus drivers are capitalising on the traffic gridlock.
“They’re charging N200 from Palmgroove to Obanikoro…I can’t believe it,” a commuter said.
A citizen reporter sent us these photos…from Palmgroove bus stop.
