Lagos businessman stabs Police Inspector with broken bottle

A 34-year-old businessman, Steven Olarenwaju, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing a police inspector with broken bottle.

Olarenwaju, who resides at the Jankara area of Lagos State, is facing a charge of assault.

Police Prosecutor, Godwin Awase told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 6 at Alagbado area of Lagos.

He said that Olanrewaju unlawfully assaulted Inspector Abiodun Aigbogun, by stabbing him with a broken bottle in his head and face.

Awase said Olanrewaju was beating up a tricycle driver and Aigbogun tried to stop him.

“The complainant got to the scene to make peace between the two parties, when the accused transferred his aggression on the officer for daring to stop him from beating up the driver,” he said.

Awese said the accused also pushed the complainant into the gutter which caused him to dislocate his ankle.

Olanrewaju, who faces a seven-year jail term if found guilty, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
