AGAIN! Killer policeman shoots tailor, 23, point blank during birthday party in Lagos

The police has, again, become responsible for the death of an innocent citizen, this time in the Ijeshatedo area of Lagos.

According to reports, a senior officer at Ijeshatedo Divisional Police Headquarters, pulled the trigger on a 23-year-old fashion designing apprentice on Sunday evening.

The fashion designer, Jamiu Ayoade, had gone for a friend’s birthday party in the area, when the policeman and his men stormed the venue around 6:30pm.

They were there to observe the youths’ activities during the party, reports say.

The officers left the party venue, only to return shortly after, shooting sporadically.

The officers were said to have pursued the youths into several corners, with many falling into gutters and sustaining various injuries.

Ayoade’s killer officer reportedly pursued him and others into a house, and aimed his gun at them right in the passage.

Ayoade was shot in the head, while another youth, identified as Akeem, was shot in the hand.

The officers fled the scene immediately after they saw the harm they had caused, and the youths were prevented from making reports when they visited the station.

The elder brother of the celebrant, Mr Jelili Bakare, narrated the unfortunate incident to NAN.

“My younger brother, Abubakar Animashaun, was celebrating his birthday with some friends in a low-key at our late father’s house when the officer and his men came at about 6. 30 p.m,” Bakare said.

“The officer called a woman on the street and they left. Surprisingly, the policemen came back to the street again and where I was sitting, one of the policemen that followed him shot into the air believing that some of the youths at the birthday party would run, but they stayed.

“The officer came out in anger from his vehicle and went to where Ayoade was sitting in the passage of the house and shot him on the head,” he added.

Lagos Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni has reportedly denied being aware of the incident, saying he was yet to be briefed.

The trigger-happy officer, reportedly a DPO, is walking free.

This incident adds to a long list of indiscriminate police killings and unwarranted harassment in the country.
