Kebbi secondary school where teachers and principal are no show, shut
There were no teachers on sight when the Kebbi state Commissioner of Education, Muhammadu Magawata visited a secondary school in the state on Monday, NAN reports.
Magawata immediately ordered the closure of the Government Day Secondary School, Makirin.
He ordered all the absent authorities (Principal and teachers) to report to the ministry for appropriate sanction.
“Imagine a school, where there is no principal, no staff and only students are at the assembly,” Magawata, who was on an inspection of facilities at the school, said.
“What do you expect the government to do?
“When I joined the students for the usual assembly parade by 8am, the principal was absent and this informed my decision to shut down the school,” he added.
He directed the Zonal Education Officer to ensure the school remain close and bring all the truant staff to the ministry.
He also directed all zonal education officers across the state to henceforth open attendance register for staff in all schools under their supervision.
“Whosoever absconds from duty for a period of five days should be expelled, while those absent for three days should be suspended.”
Magawata said there was no room for lateness and absenteeism in schools in the state.
