Kebbi residents raise alarm over the rise of rape cases, anal sex and paedophilia in the state

Kebbi residents Residents of Birnin Kebbi are living under palpable worry due to persistent and alarming cases of rape and defiling of minor in the state.

This was as a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Birnin-Kebbi, the state capital, ordered that two accused persons – Bashir Samaila and Faruq Abubakar be remanded in prison for allegedly defiling minor and having anal sex with a teenage boy.

The Magistrate, Abubakart Atiku, while presiding over the case and ruling on an application, said that the accused persons were arrested by officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at Gwardu and Argungu for having unlawful sexual affairs with their victims, which violated Sections 245, 283 and 284 of the Panel Code.

NSCDC prosecutor, Felix Ogbeke told the court that on November 5, Faruq Abubakar was arrested defiling a minor, identified as Umuh, who was sent to his shop to buy wheat by her father for their animals.

According to him, the accused person grabbed the victim and defiled her; the offence which contravenes Section 283 of panel code, but asked the Court to adjourn the case to enable the corps to conclude its investigations on the matter.

The second NSCDC Prosecutor, Habib Sani also informed the Court that sometimes in September 2017, Bashir Samaila unlawfully used his manhood to penetrate through the anus of one Abubakar Muhammad, a teenage boy, without his consent at Argungu in Kebbi State.

He argued that, after he had committed the crime, he allegedly poured “chemical” on the victim head, causing grievous hurt. The offence he said contradicted Sections 284 and 245 of Pane Code, urging the Court to remand the accused persons in prison pending the conclusion of investigation on the matter by the corps.
The accused persons, however, denied all the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
But while ruling on the matters Magistrate Abubakar ruled that the court had jurisdiction to entertain the case of first accused person and ordered that he should be remanded in prison pending legal advice on the matter.

On the second case, the Magistrate ruled that the court lacked jurisdiction to try the accused person on natural offence (homosexual), but declined that the court would continue further hearing on the allegation of grievous hurt levelled against him by the complaint.

He, however, ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison till November 20, for further hearing.
