Katsina: 8 killed, 38 injured as cattle-carrying truck runs into ditch

Eight travelling passengers have been confirmed dead in a ghastly motor accident on Katsina-Kano road in Charanchi Local Government, Katsina State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC confirmed the incident to NAN on Monday in Katsina that the accident occurred on Sunday evening at Eka Village.

A trailer, carrying cattle and 58 passengers, was reportedly on its way to the southern parts of the country. It’s tire burst and it skid off the road and run into a ditch, some passengers and animals.

FRSC sector commander, Abdu Bagadawa, said eight persons died on the spot, while 38 others sustained various degrees of injuries.

Many cattle were reportedly killed, while others ran into the bush.

Bagadawa said a towing van to lift the vehicle up and remove some of the corpses.

He added that the corpses and injured persons were taken to the Katsina General Hospital, and warned the general public to desist from travelling in trucks meant for transportation of animals.

“I wants to use this medium to strongly warn people to desist from entering such vehicles that they will be mixed up with animals for safety of their lives,” he said.
