FG launches scheme to allow Nigerians travel by air on credit
Nigeria’s federal government has introduced a new consumer credit initiative designed to make domestic air travel more accessible to citizens.
The programme, branded “fly now, pay later,” enables eligible travellers to book flights within the country and pay for them over time through structured instalments. The initiative was announced by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CrediCorp) in a statement shared on Tuesday.
According to CrediCorp, the scheme is being implemented in partnership with fintech platform MyVisaro and Alert Microfinance Bank. The goal is to ease the financial pressure of paying for flights upfront, which often prevents many Nigerians from travelling when needed.
Under the arrangement, qualified users are required to make an initial deposit of 30 percent of the ticket cost. The remaining balance is then spread across three monthly instalments, making it easier to manage travel expenses.
CrediCorp noted that the initiative is part of its broader mission to expand access to responsible consumer credit and improve quality of life for Nigerians. Interested individuals can apply through the Visaro platform to book flights to destinations across the country.
The launch comes amid a sharp rise in domestic airfares, making flying increasingly unaffordable for many travellers. By introducing flexible payment options, the government hopes to boost mobility and support economic activity.
This is one of several recent efforts by CrediCorp to deepen financial inclusion. The agency has rolled out multiple credit programmes targeting different groups, including young people, retirees, and aspiring vehicle owners. In December 2024, it partnered with the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) to establish a N20 billion consumer credit fund to help Nigerians purchase locally assembled vehicles.
