January 25, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari has announced the suspension of the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnoghen.
Onnoghen had been facing allegations of fraudulent assets declaration and had been charged to appear before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
The CJN was also accused of being in control of funds in undeclared accounts.
Buhari gave his order on Friday and immediately swore in an acting CJN, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed – a native of Bauchi State.
The President stated that he carried out the suspension on the orders of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, which was given on January 23.
