JUST IN: Ambode set to present 2019 budget after impeachment threat
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has met with Lagos House of Assembly speaker, Mudashiru Obasa in preparation for the presentation of the 2019 budget.
Lawmakers in the state had threatened to impeach Ambode over his refusal to present the budget before them. The lawmakers said he had begun authorising spending despite the shortcoming.
They had given the governor a week ultimatum to appear before them and defend his position.
But political juggernaut Bola Tinubu said on Sunday, after a peace meeting was brokered by the APC leadership, that Ambode will remain governor until the end of his tenure.
Ambode, following the resolution, will now present the budget today – almost two months after he was originally expected to.
Obasa, however, said the lawmakers who have openly expressed a vote of no confidence in Ambode, were not witch-hunting the governor.
“We are not at odds with the Governor over anything. Rather we are diligently playing our roles in contributing to the transparent and accountable governance that has made Lagos the envy of all,” he said.
