Jigawa Governor sets up committee to probe tanker explosion

The Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, has set up a committee to probe the recent tanker explosion in the state that left several people dead.

Namadi made this known in a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday.

The committee will be chaired by a Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police. The Governor reported that the death toll has now risen to 181. He also confirmed that 80 persons were receiving treatment in the hospital.

The explosion occurred in Majiya village in the Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa state on October 16.

When the petrol tank overturned and spilt fuel on the road, villagers rushed to scoop fuel when the tanker exploded.

The Governor of Jigawa state disclosed that the government have been handling the medical expenses of the victims.

“About 181 confirmed deaths, around 80 people in hospitals, and approximately 210 families affected,” the Governor disclosed.
