One student sitting for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination was, on Thursday, caught with a gun in the exam hall in Nasarawa State.
The state’s commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mr. Bashir Lawal-Kano, told journalists in Lafia that the candidate was arrested in possession of a locally-made pistol and two rounds of live ammunition.
He was arrested during a search at the entrance of the Nasarawa State Polytechnic centre.
The suspect, 21, was said to have confessed that someone gave him the gun for safekeeping.
Lawal-Kano said the unnamed suspect would be charged to court for illegal possession of firearms, adding that even registered guns were not allowed at examination centres.
