Indonesia: Woman bursts into tears after court sentences her to jail for recording conversation with abuser
November 16, 2018
An Indonesian couldn’t hold back tears as the court handed down a six months jail term on her for documenting her boss’ sexual abuse.
Baiq Nuril Maknun, 37, had taped the conversation she had with her employer, a school’s head teacher who wanted to take her to bed. She accused the teacher of making repeated unwanted sexual advances.
Maknun was, however, accused by the court of spreading “indecent” material thereby violating the country’s electronic information and transactions law, after a colleague used the audio to lodge an official complaint against the head teacher.
“The Supreme Court judges were satisfied that she has violated the law,” court spokesman, Suhadi, told Reuters.
