“IGP Idris’ attitude is insulting, threat to our democracy” – Saraki blows hot over police boss’ disobedience
The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has again refused to show up at the Senate chamber as mandated by the National Assembly today.
Idris was supposed to appear before the lawmakers to give reports on police efforts in combating crime in several parts of the country – particularly herdsmen killings in Benue.
The lawmakers also want to ask the IGP about Dino Melaye’s situation.
Senate President, Saraki has expressed his dismay at IGP Idris’ constant disregard for the upper chamber.
The Senate Deputy Leader, Bala Ibn Na’allah also called the IGP’s attitude “insulting”.
“I am in a state of shock that he (IGP Idris) has failed to appear,” Na’allah said.
Saraki, on his part, said: “The IG has said that he cannot come. He wants to delegate it to a junior to come. Since we returned to democracy, there has been no IG that has refused to come. He is doing this and this is a threat to our democracy.”
The Senate President likened Idris’ disobedience to when he disobeyed President Buhari.
“It is not only us, it is also to the President. The President told him to go to Benue, he refused to go,” Saraki added.
