IGP Deploys Elite Police Team to Rescue Abducted Afenifere Youth Leader
The release of abducted Afenifere youth leader, Eniola Ojajuni, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the deployment of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
The directive, announced on Wednesday by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, underscores the police’s commitment to bringing Ojajuni home safely.
Adejobi also cautioned the public against spreading unverified information on social media, warning that speculation could jeopardize the ongoing rescue mission.
“The NPF is fully committed to the safe return of Prince Ojajuni and is deploying all necessary resources and expertise to achieve this objective,” the statement read.
The police spokesperson also highlighted recent crackdowns on organized crime across the country. In Taraba State, officers raided a notorious criminal hideout at Wamunchi dry season rice farms on February 26, leading to the arrest of 20 male suspects.
Authorities recovered an AK-47 rifle, seven rounds of live ammunition, three dane guns, a bow and arrow, a motorcycle, and other items. The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further questioning.
Meanwhile, in Oyo State, a police tactical team working alongside local security outfits successfully rescued three kidnapped victims from a village near Ibadan on February 24. One suspect was arrested in connection with the abduction.
Adejobi reaffirmed the police force’s dedication to combating insecurity and commended officers for their swift actions in these operations.
