Ifa priest recommends traditional oath-taking for public office holders

An old African adage stresses that a man who forgets his oaths will soon forget his place.

Over the years, it is evident that public office holders in Nigeria have not lived up to the expectations of the people who are desperately in need of policies that will help bring progress in the country.

It’s on the heels of this sad reality that Chief Fashola Faniyi, an Ifa priest from Ota, Ogun State recommend that the government should adopt traditional oath-taking process for swearing-in public officials.

The traditionalist who made the suggestion on Wednesday at an event he organized to celebrate the first year anniversary of his NGO, Ancestral Pride Foundation in Ota said that remarkable change will be difficult to achieve in Nigeria as long as the government refuses to recognize traditional belief system alongside Islam and Christianity.

“Why must our presidents and governors take oath of office only with Bible and Quran,” he asked.
