“I would have been surprised at a different outcome” – Fayose reacts to tribunal ruling
Former Ekiti governor Ayo Fayose has said he wasn’t surprised about the ruling by the Election Petition Tribunal in favour of Governor Kayode Fayemi.
Fayemi was confirmed as the legitimate winner of the gubernatorial election last year, with the tribunal stating that various allegations raised by PDP candidate Olusola Kolapo Eleka were not proved as required by law.
NAN reports that Justice Suleiman Bolaji Belgore, Chairman of the tribunal, ruled on Monday (today) that Fayemi was lawfully returned as winner of majority votes by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The tribunal specifically said that Fayemi scored 197,459, as against 178,121 votes scored by Eleka to emerge winner of the poll.
Fayose, in reaction to the judgment, said a different outcome at the tribunal would have shocked him, as he faulted the transparency with which it was carried out.
“I would have been surprised at the judgment of the tribunal if it had been otherwise because the judiciary was already coerced by the APC led federal government. In fact, the judgement was in public domain and celebrated by APC since the last few days,” he wrote on his Twitter.

Fayose had also criticised President Muhammadu Buhari’s suspension of Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Innoghen, calling him a “full blown Hitler in charge of our country”.
