Hmmm…UNILAG professors fight over late mother’s properties
Felicia Durojaiye Oyekanmi and her elder brother Adebayo Durojaiye are professors at the University of Lagos in Nigeria.
Although they share blood and school, a dispute over who inherits their late mothers properties is tugging at the heart of whatever binds them together.
Their mother, Ibidun Durojaiye, died in 1999 and left properties behind for the UNILAG professors – her only surviving children.
There is a two-storey building in Ilupeju Estate, and another in Mushin areas of Lagos.
There are other properties in her hometown in Ilesa, Osun State. Whoever wants to lose sleep over losing those?
Felicia reportedly says she’ll have the Lagos buildings all to herself while Adebayo would take all other houses built in Osun.
Felicia, according to The Guardian, claimed that the Lagos houses belong to her in accordance with the sharing agreement reached after the burial of their late mom by the family.
Adebayo, her elder brother, is buying none of it. He insists the buildings must be shared equally.
His reasons are obvious. A Lagos hut is more financially viable than a mansion in Osun State.
They’ve dragged themselves before a Lagos high court. Their case was entertained earlier this week.
Presiding judge, Mrs L.A.W. Folami, adjourned the matter till February 4, 2016..
