Here are Tinubu’s 28 ministerial nominees as Wike, Umahi, two other ex-governors make the list
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has finally revealed the much-anticipated list of ministerial nominees for his new cabinet, 60 days after he assumed office as Nigeria’s 16th president.
The list, which was submitted to the National Assembly for confirmation, was read out by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, during the plenary session on Thursday, July 27, 2023, and has 28 ministerial nominees.
There have been speculations that Tinubu might fail to meet the constitutional requirements of naming his cabinet within 60 days, according to the constitutional amendment by the ninth assembly.
The nominees, selected by the President, include four former governors.
Nyesom Wike, the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, who worked against his party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party, during the presidential election and was the leader of the G-5 Governors, was nominated. Also, David Umahi, former governor of Ebonyi State and a current Senator, Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, and Muhammed Abubakar, ex-governor of Jigawa State, were nominated.
Other top politicians on the list include prominent figures such as Dele Alake, the current Special Adviser to the President for Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, and Abubakar Kyari, Acting National Chairman (North) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
