Why did “happy” MTV presenter Sam Sarpong jump?
MTV presenter and Tommy Hilfiger model Sam Sarpong died after jumping from a bridge in California, reports say.
Police officers, for seven hours, reportedly tried talking him out of jumping from a bridge in Pasedena on Monday.
Sarpong, who was bother to former T4 presenter June Sarpong, apparently ignored their pleas and jumped to a sad death.
June said the following after her brother’s death:
I love my brother very much. Sam was an amazing human being. His passing is a loss for the world.
I’d ask anyone who is going through tough times to seek help. Please talk to someone.
My family and I are in a state of shock, please allow us to grieve in private. Thank you for all your messages of condolence.
Sarpong’s passing has thrown the world of showbiz into mourning.
Celebrities the world over say they cannot understand why a someone as “positive” and “amazing” as Sarpong would “commit suicide.”
Nollywood actress Omoni Oboli said she’s devastated over the death of the 40 year-old British-born/Ghanaian TV actor, our affiliate NET reports.
Sarpong played Omoni Oboli’s husband in the movie “Anchor Baby.”
“I have been balling my eyes out for the last hour,” Oboli wrote after learning of Sarpong’s tragic passing.
“I have never met a more positive guy in my whole life! He’s the most genuine, God fearing, lovable character you’ll ever meet.”
Oboli is not the only celeb shocked at why someone as “positive” as Sarpong would take his own life.
CSI: NY star Hill Harper also wondered in that line, and offered a possible explanation.
“I never saw @mrsamsarpong bitter,” Harper wrote on Instagram.
“He was always positive and he was always fly. Sadly, here in L. A. those are often signs someone is hurting inside.
“Gonna miss you, man.”
Sarpong was a model for Tommy Hilfiger and other fashion brands.
He was also the first black male model to do a Louis Vuitton editorial campaign. He is survived by his father and his sister June Sarpong.
Los Angeles County Coroner’s office said the case was being investigated as a possible suicide.
However, the cause of death would not be determined till the results of a toxicology test are released.
