Gunmen abduct 25 schoolgirls, kill vice principal in Kebbi

Twin Attacks in Northern Nigeria Leave 22 Dead as Violence Surges

Gunmen have attacked the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, located in Danko/Wasagu LGA of Kebbi State, abducting 25 students, police have confirmed.

According to Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi, spokesperson for the Kebbi Police Command, the assailants were “armed with sophisticated weapons” and launched the assault around 4:00 a.m., engaging on-duty police officers in a gunfight.

The attack resulted in the death of the school’s vice principal, Hassan Makuku, while Ali Shehu, a security guard, sustained a gunshot wound to his right hand. A teacher at the school reported that the gunmen fled toward neighboring Zamfara State, taking the abducted students with them.

In response, Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Bello Muhammad Sani, said additional police tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilance groups have been deployed to the area. “The combined team is currently combing suspected escape routes and surrounding forests in a coordinated search and rescue operation aimed at recovering the abducted students and apprehending the perpetrators,” he said.
