Dangote refinery: Our units undergoing routine maintenance — but petrol production not interrupted

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dismissed reports suggesting it halted petrol production, stating that output remains steady despite ongoing maintenance on some processing units.

Reports had emerged on December 3 claiming that the refinery suspended operations at its petrol unit to carry out maintenance and upgrades. However, in a statement released on Monday, the company clarified that the maintenance work has not affected overall production.

According to the refinery, routine servicing is currently being conducted on parts of its Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Residual Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) units. It explained that the facility’s advanced and integrated design allows production to continue even when specific units are undergoing maintenance.

The refinery said it is still producing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (diesel), and Jet A-1 fuel through other operational units, including the Naphtha Hydrotreater, Continuous Catalytic Reformer (CCR), and Hydrocracker.

Dangote Refinery also rejected claims that it was shutting down operations, stressing that production remains stable and uninterrupted.

The refinery is not shutting down. Operations are ongoing at scale,” the statement said, adding that it currently has the capacity to supply between 40 million and 50 million litres of PMS daily through January and February, depending on market demand.

It disclosed that on January 4, the refinery produced 50 million litres of petrol and evacuated 48 million litres through its gantry. Current stock levels, the company said, are sufficient to meet more than 20 days of national consumption, easing concerns over potential supply shortages.

The statement further revealed that between December 16, 2025, and the present, the refinery has consistently loaded between 31 million and 48 million litres of petrol daily, in line with prevailing market demand.
