Ghanaian man’s wife, son drown in pool in Canada
A Ghanaian man returned home on Saturday to find his wife and child unconscious after they drowned in a pool in their backyard.
Emmanuel Akrong told The Star that his wife, Elizabeth Solomon, had called to tell him that their son was dying, but he got home to see her face down in the pool.
He called for help when he couldn’t bring Elizabeth out of the water on his own. A neighbour identified as Ozzy Anjum raced to the scene to find Akrong’s 5-year-old son unresponsive.
Akrong and Anjum then brought out Elizabeth from the backyard pool in their Canada home after carrying out an unsuccessful CPR on the boy.
“We dragged her out and flipped her on the deck. There was dirt in her eyes and mouth, then the paramedics and police arrived on the scene,” Akrong said.
Solomon was taken to hospital, where she died early Sunday morning. Her son was pronounced dead on arrival.
